Gamers Demand Medal of Honor’s Return to Take on Call of Duty

For years, the first-person shooter genre has been dominated by blockbuster franchises like Call of Duty. But recently, longtime fans have been pushing for the return of Medal of Honor — the iconic WWII series that helped define military shooters in the late 1990s and 2000s.

The original Medal of Honor games earned praise for their cinematic storytelling, realistic wartime atmosphere, and historical focus. Titles such as Frontline, Allied Assault, and Rising Sun became fan favorites during the PlayStation 2 and PC era. Many developers who worked on Medal of Honor: Allied Assault later went on to create the original Call of Duty, making the two franchises historically connected.

Fans say modern shooters have shifted heavily toward fast-paced movement systems, cosmetics, and live-service content. Across gaming communities and social media, players have increasingly asked for a grounded WWII experience focused on realism, emotional storytelling, and classic multiplayer gameplay — elements many associate with the older Medal of Honor titles.

The franchise has been mostly inactive since Medal of Honor: Warfighter released in 2012. While publisher Electronic Arts later experimented with VR through Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond in 2020, many fans still want a full-scale return to consoles and PC.

Meanwhile, Battlefield and Call of Duty continue competing for dominance in the military shooter space. Industry analysts believe nostalgia-driven revivals have become increasingly successful, especially when developers combine classic gameplay identity with modern graphics and online systems.

Whether Medal of Honor eventually returns remains unknown, but one thing is clear: many gamers still see the franchise as one of the most influential military shooters ever made — and they want it back on the front lines.
